April Kyle was a young girl who had been in trouble and a run-away a long time ago. Spenser had come to her rescue and turned her over to a “High Class” madame in New York who raised her from a teenager. Young April Kyle has now presented herself in Spenser’s office asking for help.
April is now a grown woman running her own “high class” whorehouse in Boston and there are a couple of tough gangster types giving her problems her new business. She wants Spenser to help her get rid of them. Spenser does but in the process uncovers other stuff going on. Her “all female” enterprise is a ripping success but some men are trying to destroy her and she needs her knight in shining armour.
Spenser runs off the tough guys who are harassing her but in the process finds out that April is not the innocent brothel madam that she pretends to be. He and Hawk track down her links to organized crime and uncover all of April’s little secrets.
It is painful to Spenser but April is not the innocent young thing that she once was. In the final chapters Spenser uncovers her intricate deceptions and clears her nefereous murders and crime plots in April’s dealings.
“Hundred Dollar Baby” is exciting and earns a 7 of 10 on the Weaver meter.
