Comments:

Granny Apples got the nickname because she was famous for her apple pies. They were the best in all of Southern California in the time of the gold rush in California. But Granny came to a tragic end. She was hanged for killing her husband. The thing is she did not kill her husband. Her husband was shot in the back by three men who were after the gold he had discovered on his farm and since Granny stood in their way of getting the farm and the gold she had to go too. Granny’s ghost was not happy. She wanted to have her name cleared. That is why she chose her great, great, great granddaughter to help.

Emma Whitecastle has the gift to be able to see the ghosts of dead people and Granny appears to her to ask for help. Emma is reluctant but finally agrees to go to Julian in the mountains north of San Diego to see if she can uncover what really happened over a hundred years ago.

Together she and Granny discover what actually happened. They meet up with a rough but very nice rancher who now owns the place. Emma falls for the guy after lots of fighting and arguing about ghosts. There is lots of excitement as Emma and her new beau fight it out with a couple of modern day gold hunters, who murdered the psychic they had hired to help them and then attempt to murder Emma while digging for the gold that was hidden long ago.

“Ghost a la Mode” is a charming and romantic sort of mystery. The story keeps you interested and it is not slow or boring. I rate it as a 7 of 10 on the Weaver meter.

Enjoy, Sid
